Arif Budiman

Senior Technical Manager

As Senior Technical Manager, Arif brings over 20 years of experience in nature conservation, with a focus on Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU). He specializes in policy development and implementation, supporting governments in emission reduction strategies, jurisdictional approaches, and forest carbon initiatives. Prior to joining ART, Arif collaborated with government agencies, private sector partners, and local communities to drive climate action through projects on forest carbon, peatland restoration, and low-emission development. He has worked with numerous institutions, including WWF, UNDP, and Winrock, contributing to key initiatives such as Indonesia’s Forest Reference Emission Level (FREL), the National Peatland REL, and methodology development for peatland rewetting under Verra’s VCS program, alongside jurisdictional-scale climate initiatives.

Arif holds a master’s degree in Ecology from Padjadjaran University, Indonesia, following his bachelor’s degree in Forestry. He is also among the first certified professionals in Advanced Terrestrial Carbon Accounting (TCA) from the University of California, San Diego, highlighting his expertise in carbon measurement (MRV) and climate policy.

The Advisory Board oversees ART’s implementation in accordance with the evolving UNFCCC processes and guarantees good governance, transparent rules, and processes that assure quality and adequate safeguards. ART Advisory Board members have all agreed to the ART Board Charter and the ART Ethical Standard. Advisory Board members serve in their personal capacities, not as representatives of their organizations or of particular stakeholder groups.

Secretariat

The ART Secretariat, hosted by Winrock International, is responsible for the operation of the ART program, including the development of The REDD+ Environmental Excellence Standard (TREES) and overseeing the registration, verification and issuance of Board-approved TREES Credits on the ART registry.
