Mikaela Weisse

Senior Manager, Stakeholder Engagement

As ART’s Senior Manager of Stakeholder Engagement, Mikaela works with jurisdictions, buyers, NGOs, certification bodies, and others to improve understanding of ART and jurisdictional REDD+. Mikaela has over a decade of experience supporting efforts to reduce tropical deforestation through robust forest monitoring.

Prior to joining the ART Secretariat, Ms. Weisse served as the Director of Global Forest Watch at the World Resources Institute, where she oversaw implementation, strategy, and fundraising for the initiative. At WRI, she also led the release of Global Forest Watch’s annual forest loss statistics, provided technical trainings on the use of global monitoring data, and liaised with research partners. Earlier in her career, Mikaela analyzed the effectiveness of protected areas in the Peruvian Amazon during her graduate studies and identified priority areas for conservation as an intern with the Wildlife Conservation Society in Peru. Mikaela holds a master’s degree in Geography and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Wisconsin.

Board of Directors

The Advisory Board oversees ART’s implementation in accordance with the evolving UNFCCC processes and guarantees good governance, transparent rules, and processes that assure quality and adequate safeguards. ART Advisory Board members have all agreed to the ART Board Charter and the ART Ethical Standard. Advisory Board members serve in their personal capacities, not as representatives of their organizations or of particular stakeholder groups.

Secretariat

The ART Secretariat, hosted by Winrock International, is responsible for the operation of the ART program, including the development of The REDD+ Environmental Excellence Standard (TREES) and overseeing the registration, verification and issuance of Board-approved TREES Credits on the ART registry.
